DEPRESSION & LOW MOOD

It is now a highly recognised fact that clinical depression has biological routes. Every thought we have and every emotion we experience can change our brain chemistry. The chemical in the brain that we attribute to feeling happy and content is called serotonin and we know that serotonin can fluctuate constantly depending on how we are feeling, what we are thinking, what we are doing and who we are spending time with. It is commonly thought that a reduced level of serotonin causes depression, but evidence actually suggests that the reduction of serotonin is as a result of the low mood not the cause of it. Research suggests that we can naturally increase levels of serotonin by thinking positively, interacting positively and acting positively. Of course, we all know that this is easier said than done when our mood is low.

This is where Bridge Hypnotherapy can help. The talking element of the therapy allows us to identify and focus on the positive aspects of our lives whilst the hypnosis element gives access to the unconscious mind. As a result of this we can re-train the brain, which is highly malleable to be more positive and to think differently about specific things. This reduces the level of depression we feel and in turn increases that feel-good chemical, serotonin.
